What's wrong with my ears?

So this has been happening for 3 days. My throat hurts wheb I swallow and I've been spitting up mucus. I don't have strep throat, I went to the doctor. My nose is congested, and my ears won't pop. My hearing really sucks because everything sounds muffled and I have to sleep up. My doctor said my ear drums are red and I have an ear infection. But why is my hearing muffled? Help, I'm taking finals and it sucks.
